High winds and rain pounded the Greater Cleveland area amid a tornado warning Tuesday afternoon, and a severe thunderstorm warning remained in effect for Northeast Ohio until at least 7 p.m.

As skies darkened in Cuyahoga County, lawn furniture was knocked sideways and tree branches fell to the ground during the severe, if brief, storm. FirstEnergy reported power outages to nearly 400,000 customers shortly after 6 p.m. That represents about 19% of FirstEnergy's Ohio customers.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport experienced sporadic power outages for about 90 minutes, according to an airport spokesperson. Shortly after 6 p.m., it sent a message to cleveland.com saying power had been restored.
