Prepare the stem by making two circumferential cuts, one inch apart, below a bud eye, penetrating to the core. Remove the bark between the cuts to expose the core, then moisten it and apply rooting hormone.
Enclose the prepared stem section in a root pod filled with a moisture-retentive medium like coconut coir or a peat moss/vermiculite mix.
Keep the pod moist and check for root growth. When enough roots have developed, sever the new plant from the parent plant.
Pot the new plant in a small container with quality potting mix and cover it with a humidity dome, such as a plastic bottle, to help it establish.
