The wild weather hit large swathes of Victoria on Tuesday, dumping torrents of rain and unleashing some gusts of more than 150 kilometres per hour (90 miles per hour).

The onslaught of wild weather, characterised by golf-ball-sized hail, flash flooding, and severe winds, wreaked havoc on both regional areas and metropolitan Melbourne.

Nearly half a million homes were left without power in the Australian state of Victoria after a storm knocked out parts of the network.
