A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the East New Britain region of Papua New Guinea, with the epicenter near Kokopo. Residents in Kokopo, Rabaul, Kabake, Vunakanau, and Masawa felt the tremors, and many rushed outdoors in fear. Around 1,500 people experienced strong shaking, while over 20,000 reported mild vibrations. Minor structural damage was recorded in Rabaul and Kerevat, but no fatalities or serious injuries were reported. Authorities confirmed there was no tsunami threat, though residents were advised to stay alert for aftershocks.
