Severe thunderstorms blew through the Lake Charles area Monday, knocking out power in Westlake and Sulphur, and spinning off what forecasters have confirmed was a tornado.

As of 8 p.m. Monday, more than 76,000 Entergy customers were without power in Louisiana, including nearly 25,000 in Calcasieu Parish.

The National Weather Service also issued severe thunderstorm warnings shortly after 8 p.m. for Mandeville, Covington, Lacombe and Slidell, gusty winds of up to 70 mph are possible, along with tornadoes and hail.
