An emergency warning has been issued as Townsville faces significant localised flooding due to heavy rainfall across the region. Townsville has experienced widespread flooding as rainfall exceeded 500mm, prompting evacuation warnings for many low-lying areas within the local government area.

Conditions have deteriorated rapidly as heavy rain fell throughout the day, with the North Ward alone receiving more than 234mm of rain between 9am and 4.30pm. The general rainfall forecast predicts totals of 200 to 500mm over the weekend, which could worsen the situation significantly.
