South Korea sinks today! Cars floating in water, flash floods in Gwangju

Heavy rains of more than 420 mm fell across much of Gwangju and South Chungcheong Province, causing widespread damage, overflowing rivers, forcing evacuations, halting some train services and stranding many vehicles. As a heavy rain warning was issued for Gwangju, a water bomb of nearly 150mm is pouring down, causing flood damage in various places.

Some people were rescued by 119, including drivers, after being trapped in vehicles due to the sudden surge of water. In the area around Baekwoon Square in Nam-gu, several commercial buildings were flooded. In the areas around the Buk-gu Office Intersection and the Munheung-dong Cathedral in Buk-gu, roads were flooded and vehicle traffic was restricted.
