Thailand sinks today! Cars floating in water, major flooding in Chiang Rai

The flood situation in Mae Sai District of Chiang Rai province remains worrying, after the Sai river overflowed since Monday morning (July 28). Residents in four communities are evacuating after two floodwalls breached, and heavy rain in Myanmar continues to raise water levels. Floodwaters are chest-high, forcing residents to brave the current to escape.

This flooding has affected at least four communities in Mae Sai Subdistrict Municipality: Sai Lom Joy, Koh Sai, Mai Lung Khan, and Muang Daeng. The flooding situation was influenced by heavy rainfall in upstream areas on the Myanmar side, particularly in Ban Cho Tada, Shan State. The continued rainfall has caused the Sai River to rise.
