South Africa under water today! Worst floods submerge homes in Mthatha

Rescue operations are underway in Mthatha and surrounding areas as severe flooding continues to hit communities across the Eastern Cape. Emergency response teams have been deployed from Gqeberha, East London and Chris Hani District to support local emergency responders already working in the area.

In the Slovo neighbourhood in Mthatha, residents have been trapped on rooftops and flooded since early morning. While many have been rescued, helicopter crews continue to attempt to reach those still stranded in trees.
