Heavy rain wreaked havoc on Wednesday, causing severe flooding in parts of Johannesburg, submerging low-lying infrastructure and bridges. Floodwaters affected several areas, including Randpark Ridge, Newlands, Struben Valley, Weltevredenpark, Jukskei Park and Witkoppen Road.

With severe thunderstorms and heavy rain expected to continue in Gauteng, the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Service was overwhelmed. The service has responded to a number of incidents and carried out daring rescues of motorists stranded on flooded bridges in Johannesburg.
